How to add natural gate weave in Premiere Pro
Gate weave is the small, imperfect movement created as physical film travels through a camera, printer, or projector gate. The key is restraint: it should feel like film registration drift, not handheld camera shake.

Why ordinary camera shake looks wrong
Handheld presets usually simulate a camera being operated in physical space. Gate weave comes from the film itself shifting inside a mechanical transport, so the movement is tighter, flatter, and less expressive.
Three practical approaches
1. Animate it by hand
Add tiny position and rotation keyframes at irregular intervals.
2. Build a reusable preset
Save a keyframed move as a Premiere preset for quicker reuse.
3. Use a native effect
